Character: Edna
Age: Looks early teens, is actually at least a few hundred years old.
Canon: Tales of Zestiria
Canon Point: Lastonbell, after the Tiamat fight.
Background: Tales of Zestiria Seraph Edna herself
Almost nothing is known about Edna's backstory before she joins Sorey, Mikleo, and Lailah; all we do know is her brother Eizen became a dragon (a seraph so corrupted by malevolence/toxic emotions they cannot be purified and must be killed) at some point in the nearish past and before that she was given or took his headband, boots, a glove, and the Normin on her umbrella. We don't know why this happens, what happened to her parents, or what she was doing before Eizen was corrupted
After becoming a Sub-Lord for Lailah and joining Sorey, Edna's only personally involved in a few important moments. Her brother's corruption comes up frequently as the crew fights dragons and other hellions unable to be purified, and by the time she arrives in Empatheias she's accepted that yes, she will have to kill her brother. She, along with Lailah, also offers most of the history told in game as she is much older than she appears.
Personality: Edna is a dry, dry young lady. She is almost always somewhat monotone, even when she is expressing some sort of emotion. The few exceptions tend to involve her brother, who was turned into a dragon and who until recently she was determined to save without killing. Learning it was impossible is one of the few times she openly expresses sadness, and deciding to accept this is one of the few times she actually smiles (likely to reassure her friends). Edna certainly feels emotions, she just prefers to keep from openly expressing them and would rather beat people with her umbrella or troll them to hide them.
Edna also does not like humans (specifically humans; if she dislikes other seraphim it’s never really brought up). She finds them selfish and stupid, only asking the seraphim for help when it’s convenient for them and never otherwise. Still, Edna made a grave on her mountain for the people her brother had killed as a dragon, so while she dislikes them she doesn’t actively hate them and does feel sorry for them at times. She can also accept that humans can change, but she also knows that lots of humans together rarely ends well and that generally speaking it’s best to just ignore them and the world as a whole if she wishes to remain free of malevolence. Sorey coming along as the Shepherd is quite likely the first time in several decades she was prompted to leave her home and her brother.
Her brother is also the only clue we get that Edna is a bit sentimental. Her boots, glove, hairband, and little Normin on her umbrella all came from her brother, and she has no desire to lose any of these things. Edna doesn’t have much in the world anymore, and she wants to keep a tight hold of what she does have.
And she shows this by trolling the everloving hell out of her more gullible or serious friends, beating Mikleo over the head with her parasol because it’s fun, and generally being the sarcastic friend of the group. She may snark at strangers, but she will usually keep the trolling to people she likes and when she starts, you know she’s decided you’re okay. Most of her trolling is harmless, though sometimes she doesn’t think things through and ends up pranking someone who then ends up punching Sorey clear across the room.
Despite being a rather dainty looking seraph, Edna is also one of the most intimidating. She can break boulders and cause the earth to rise up (at great cost to her stamina, which is why she uses an umbrella to fight--it’s light and very effective) and has no problems scaring off a giant minotaur...and then instantly regretting it because they needed to fight that minotaur and now it won’t come near them.
Abilities: Here is a list of Edna's Artes. She does not have the Shooting Stars Mystic Arte as she is from before the point she could have learned how to do this. To use these artes, she uses her umbrella as either a general bludgeoning weapon, a shield of sorts, or focus for her magic. (The umbrella plays into some elemental strength and weaknesses she discusses with Mikleo, but that comes up a grand total of one time.) The umbrella is her weapon of choice rather than something else because her Giant's Strength ability drains her stamina terribly and she can't safely use any other weapon.
Like all seraphim, Edna can fuse with a Shepherd or Squire with high resonance to perform Armatization. This is a very powerful form where she gives most of her strength to the human and, in her case, they punch things or throw rocks for more damage than the two could do on their own.
Edna is also a powerful healer. While she can't heal specific problems like Mikleo or Lailah can, she can heal everyone up at once.
Aside from her fighting abilities, Edna's good with weapon and armor fusion (essentially blacksmithing, though she doesn't really like to do it), finding Normins, and finding money. It's unclear how she finds the money lying around the world, but she's very very good at it.
Her Giant’s Strength ability, the one that allows her to destroy boulders, may need some nerfing. Obviously she couldn’t break any rocks the mods need to be there for Reasons.
Alignment: Piphron! Edna does not trust people. She may like them but the only people she really trusts are Sorey, Lailah, maybe Mikleo, and just now trusting Zaveid. She might trust Rose, but I am honestly not too sure how far that trust actually goes. It takes a while for her to trust people, but once she does it doesn't fade easily.
Other: Like all seraphim, Edna is invisible to those unattuned to spiritual or magical beings.
Sample: Some test driving
